John Freiter shares his memories of his first car.
He said: “My first car was a 1932 Alvis TJ 12/50 Doctor’s Drophead Coupe which I bought for £25 in 1956 and used it most weekends from Suffolk to visit my mother in London.
“It offered a superb drive with its high revving overhead valve 1645cc four engine and crash gearbox with right hand change, it was not until I owned other cars I realised just how special it was.
“Unfortunately a tree dropped on its garage and I sent it for scrap but fortunately it was recovered and restored. It now lives in Ilkley and enjoys rallying here and abroad.
“The photo is of my wife having a drive on a local airfield with my first border collie in the dickey seat.”
