Toyota Corolla: Invincible feeling did not last for long

Anna Weiss-Hindle's first car

My first car was a Toyota corolla in metallic brown.

I felt invincible in my new car and at 17 years old I was proud to be one of the first of my friends on the road.

However, within 48 hours of owning the car I managed to completely misjudge a bend, knock down a garden wall and end up in a ditch.

A couple of weeks later, still baring its battle scars another vehicle ran into me denting the passenger door.

I wish I could say that was the end of my first car disasters but sadly not.

In the nine months I owned the car I clocked up three more minor scrapes and £4,000 worth of damage to a Ford Cosworth (by not stopping soon enough at a roundabout).

It was also stolen, then found and returned a fortnight later minus its stereo – seriously! I couldn’t make this stuff up!!

My wonderful little car finally went to scrap heaven when I suffered a blown tyre while driving and rolled it across a field. Luckily I was rescued by the fire brigade as the vehicles final resting place was on its side.

I was unhurt but it was one of the scariest events in my life! The car was a complete write off as you can see. I am glad to report that my driving skills have improved in the last 23 years!
