Mazda Minagi concept

NAME: Mazda Minagi concept

DEBUT: 2011 Geneva Motor Show

APPEARANCE: Despite the name sounding perilously similar to that of the wizened, chop-stick skill demonstrating, wax-on wax-off mantra touting martial arts teacher from the original Karate Kid Movie, the Minagi is no relic. A powerful but sleek design on a slightly high-rise SUV platform gives the Minagi concept plenty of visual appeal. The exterior is a strong indicator of the future design direction for the brand; ‘Kodo’ or “Soul of Motion”, replaces the nature-inspired ‘Nagare’ ethos.

PREDICTION: The compact crossover segment is one of the fastest growing in Europe, and it’s crucial for Mazda to have a contender. The Minagi may well be that model. In the mean time, the concept will demonstrate Mazda’s new SKYACTIV technology exhibits, developed to “build harmony between driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance”.

RATING: 9/10
