The What Car? team celebrated victory

A team from What Car? magazine driving a next generation Volkswagen Golf Blue-e-motion has celebrated victory in the inaugural RAC Future Car Challenge.

The Volkswagen model consumed the least amount of fuel any of the vehicles competing in the event during a 57-mile journey from Madeira Drive in Brighton to Pall Mall in London.

More than 60 vehicles were entered into the event, using a variety of traditional and alternative fuel sources including petrol, diesel, full electric, electric-hybrid and hydrogen.

The Volkswagen Golf Blue-e-motion is a prototype all-electric model and was driven by What Car? editor Jim Holder and VW engineer Folko Rohde. The model was making its UK debut and. according to Volkswagen is still two years away from going on sale.

“It’s testimony to the VW Golf Blue-e-motion and Folko’s expert tuition in energy-saving driving techniques that we ended up with such a fantastic result”, said Jim Holder.

“It’s a brilliant story to be ale to share with our readers”.
