All four are powered by a brand-new 4.0-litre TFSI petrol engine that uses direct injection, twin turbocharging and cylinder deactivation technology to provide a combination of athletic performance and impressive fuel efficiency.
At the top of the range is the S8, the second generation of high performance luxury saloon to come from Audi. In this application the 4.0-litre V8 produces 513bhp and 479lb.ft of torque, enough for a 0-62mph sprint time of just 4.2 seconds. Despite this capability the S8 can also achieve 27.7mpg combined, an improvement of 6mpg over the outgoing model despite more power.
Another new performance model to the range is the S7, based on the current A7 Sportback. Here the 4.0-litre V8 produces 414bhp and 406lb.ft of torque, enough to propel it to 62mph from rest in only 4.9 seconds. The combination of a lightweight, part-aluminium body and high efficiency allows it to achieve an impressive 29.1mpg.
Both the S6 saloon and S6 Avant receive the same engine as the S7, replacing the 5.2-litre V10 previously used. It provides even better acceleration that the outgoing car with a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds (4.9 Avant) yet fuel economy is improved by as much as 25 per cent to 29.1mpg.
All four models make their public debut at Frankfurt and are expected to be available to order late in 2011.
